Kopi At Coffee Atelier

Harrrrro from Penang! ☼

I guess you should have known that I'm Penang bound AGAIN for my one month clinical posting (: It's currently my second week in Penang, everything is so far so good. So happy that I'm able to feed my tummy with all the food that I've been missing, and there's definitely more space for the food that I've yet to try. Besides the food, one of our (by our, I mean my bunch of girlfriends and I) favourite weekend routine in Penang would be visiting concept cafes. I call it our weekly #siulailai (read: woman who marries well) tea time date. It's a real bliss to relax, sippin' a cup of beautifully brewed coffee, sniffin' the good aroma of the coffee and enjoying the moment, you know? Too bad I'm not a coffee person so I'll usually enjoy my pot of tea instead and of course, with dessert or pastry HEH

During our first weekend, our initial plan was to drop by Nostalgia Cafe but we wanted something light so we ended up in Coffee Atelier instead. Coffee Atelier which is located at Stewart Lane consists of 55 Café & RestaurantKopi which is a Coffee Museum, Gehrig Art Gallery, and 47 & 49 Residence.

Kopi Musuem at Coffee Atelier used to be a small but busy coffee roaster's workshop, called the Kim Guan Coffee Factory. The present Coffee Atelier have preserved the now-tranquil workspace, once smoke-filled and redolent with the glorious aroma of freshly roasting coffee beans. The equipment pulleys and the wood-fired stoves which once held the pots of roasting coffee beans are still there, and it is easy to imagine the coffee roasters hard at work, endlessly stirring the coffee beans with large wooden paddles. The original Kim Guan coffee is still sold at Coffee Atelier —  Source

I always have this thing with old buildings and its architecture.

I love love love how the drawings on the wall match the lamp cover.

Perhaps this door leads to a secret passage? :P

The original wood-fired coffee roasting equipment that still stands today at the back of the house.

Iced Mocha @ RM9.
Iced Cappucino @ RM9.
Hot latte @ RM9.

Kahlua Brownies with ice cream @ RM15
This was the bomb! The brownies is still warm and it goes so well with the cold vanilla ice cream that I jizzed in my pants HAHA How I wish they would give us a bigger slice of brownies. I like how it's nicely decorated, especially with the peaches and strawberries.
Bon Appétit ♥

This would be my new signature of I-was-here photo (; I don't know why but I love taking photo like this.

It is quite a nice place to hang out since it's really quiet in the afternoon. A pretty small place but it gives us a homey vibe. The old-fashioned and quaint interior is what attracted us the most, we couldn't stop taking photos of everything once we stepped in. I would say that the price of the drinks and desserts is reasonable as to compared to other cafes. Not to forget their friendly service too (: Feel free to drop by Cafe 55 and Restaurant which is just next door of Kopi, that serves quite an array of Mediterranean-inspired cuisine for breakfast and lunch such as their various tapas, pastas and cakes.

Vanity Trove March Edition; Temptress

As we all know, there are various brands of beauty boxes out in the market nowadays and I've gotta thank Vanity Trove for sending me this month's beauty box (*≧ω≦) which is one of the things that I've been anticipating since early March. Unfortunately, it arrived at  my doorstep LATE by a week T__T It was no longer a surprise since quite a number of bloggers had already reviewed it by then. I was really eager to know what will be inside after the amazing February edition, so I couldn't resist and ended up reading most of the reviews. Spoiler much huh? HEH.
Beautiful surprises or not, well you've gotta read on to know. But still I was elated when I received it (:

Yayyyyyers, the joy of unboxing a gift box ヽ(^。^)丿

This month theme is Temptress so I was expecting something sexy and bold, just like this lady with her smexy red lips.
The booklets of products and vouchers that come in the beauty box.
The one that attracted me the most would be this Kanebo voucher, can't wait to have to the makeover once I'm done with my clinical posting :D

So here goes, an overview of what this month's beauty box has got to offer me.
Sadly, there's no full-size or at least an travel-size product this month except for the mask T__T

#1. Etre Belle Sensiplus Hydrasilk Day & Night Cream @ RM188 (50ml)
Etre Belle Sensiplus Hydrasilk Gel Tonic @ RM138 (140ml)

Something for those with sensitive skin! The gel tonic works to sooth and moisturize one's delicate and irritated skin while the night and day cream protects allergy-prone skin against environmental stressors and helps to relieve itching and irritation of the skin. Armed with silk proteins, white tea and pure vegetables ingredients, this power-packed moisturizing cream can be used round the clock for 24 hours.

#2. Kanebo Skin Fusing Powder Foundation
Actual Casing with Sponge @ RM60
Foundation Refill @ RM140 (10.5g)

This foundation provides a natural coverage and ensures a shine-free appearance with its SPF20PA++ powder formula. Instead of staying as a thick layer of makeup, the foundation blends and melts into your skin when applied. This smoothes any uneven surface and gives you a dewy and radiant complexion!

#3. Bio-Essence Bio-Energy Firm & Brighten Eye Cream SPF 15

Bio-Essence Bird's Nest Bio-Energy Firm and Brighten Eye Cream SPF 15 comes with an unique applicator for firming and brightening eye contour. Its Bio-Energy ingredient increases metabolism and improves blood and oxygen circulation helping to reduce melanin precipitate and eliminates dark circles.

Each sheet is stretchable and form-fitting, giving you the perfect comfort and full coverage for every application. There is even enough essence left in every packet to nourish your neck and body!

Fun fact: Did you know, TT Mask Malaysia is the ONLY skincare brand in Burj Al-Arab – the world's only 7-star hotel?

#6.# B.liv Off With Those Heads Blackheads Sebum Gel (RM139 for 30ml / RM179.90 for 45ml)

This wonder gel removes white heads and blackheads painlessly and effectively, while keeping oil secretions under control and and skin irritation will never rule again.

I heard quite a number of good reviews of this unbelievably awesome product and I can't wait to try it myself. This product was actually given in last month beauty box but I was lucky to get it this month cause it was one of the products in my wishlist. Thank you Vanity Trove for being mindful (':

Verdict: Honestly speaking, March's Vanity Trove was a total letdown. Probably because I was expecting something equally good after seeing the February's Vanity Trove. I believe they can do better  than this. I've yet to try any of the products but I will still give them a try, especially the mask. Nevertheless, I'm still looking forward to their May's edition with the theme Awesome Wholesome; so it better be awesome enough to impress me.

So why not give Vanity Trove a try? Out of the beauty boxes out there, I will still recommend Vanity Trove beauty box for its quality in terms of the products that they offer and their friendly and fast service. Hop on and subscribe to their trove service now with just a subscription fee of RM50 a month! Then all you have to do is just sit back, relax and be prepared to be surprised with what they are about to send you at your doorstep.

Tsunami Village Cafe

Food post this time round!

Again, another delayed post on my Penang trip last November. Obviously I failed to complete the challenge where I'm supposed to blog about my previous Penang trip before my current trip to Penang. Well, by the time you're reading this, I'm already in Penang. *waves from the north Tsk tsk. Epic failure, I know. That's because March has been really really hectic even from the first day itself #notcomplaining

So, where were we? Yes, food! Seafood is definitely one of the not-to-be-missed food in Penang cause it's of course cheaper than the seafood in KL, no? Since we were craving for seafood, Henry Tan brought my bunch and I, as well as JunFook (no group photo, sadly) to Tsunami Village Cafe at Tanjung Bungah for a seafood dinner. No idea why is it called Tsunami Village Cafe but I guess it's probably named in the memory of the disastrous day that once almost turned a part of Penang upside down. Still, it's a peculiar name that makes it easy to remember this place. It's like any other no-frill local eatery with a few tables and chairs arranged by the beach where you can dine in al-fresco, how romantic *smirks Since it was drizzling that day and the beach was barely visible cause of the dark, we opted to dine in.

It was quite packed at that hour yet we were attended shortly after seated. However, the food took quite some time to be served.
#1. Nestum Mantis Prawns @ RM18.00
This was my first time having mantis prawns cooked in such a way and I would say this dish didn't disappoint me at all. I like how crunchy and aromatic the fried nestum is and it sure goes well with the mantis prawns.

#2. Thai Style Steamed Red Snapper @ RM30.00
I was actually expecting a fried fish topped with thick Thai sauce when it comes to Thai Style but the fish turned out to be steamed. It was real goooood (Y)
I must say that the fish was fresh and most importantly, there was no fishy smell. The flesh was tender too. The gravy was sour and spicy at the same time, making this whole dish appetizing. Best to eat with a bowl of hot steamed rice. I would totally recommend this dish!

#3. Kam Hiong Squids @ RM20.00
Just like any typical kam hiong dish, the chewy squids were fragrant and flavourful.

#4. Salted Egg Crabs @ RM36.00
This dish is undeniably one of the best salted egg crab I have tasted till date. I somehow prefer dry version of salted egg instead of the creamy ones. The crabs were generously coated with salted egg and the meat tasted sweet and juicy and came off easily.  I have no complains at all for this dish :9

#5. Sweet and Sour Crabs @ RM36.00
Equally fresh! I think I prefer my crabs without gravy but this dish is still pretty decent. I guess it's the freshness of the crabs that really matters. Besides this two styles of cooking, this restaurants also serves their crabs with cheese, black pepper, kam heong or even plain baked. You name it, they have it (;

#6. Stir Fried Vege @ RM16.00

A feast enough to feed tummies of nine :D

Overall, the seafood dishes are fared superb in freshness, flavor and price wise. The total bill came up to RM167, which is less than RM20 per person for such a satisfying dinner. Totally worth it! And I would definitely come back for another visit. The view can be pretty awesome too if you were to dine by the beach but on the downside, you have to look out for the amount of annoying mozzy (:

P/S: Oh btw, parking fee can be claimed at the cashier.

Tsunami Village Cafe [Pork-free]
543-A Tanjung Bungah,
11200 Penang.
Phone : 012-487 2718 / 019-447 2718
Opening Hours: 5pm-10pm
Closed on Mondays.

After our dinner, we headed to Bora-bora by Sunset Bistro, which is one of our favourite chilling spot in Penang at night.
Literally sitting by the beach while enjoying the breeze and listening to the waves (: We were seated so close to the beach that I even had the urge to swim in the sea but the beach was dirty, such bummer T__T
Instead of drinking beers like others, we had fruit juices in plastic cups instead HEH #chio

To be honest, I'm not really looking forward for my trip to Penang tomorrow. But for the sake of their good food, scratch that! Hopefully I don't come back with extra baggage on my tummy (x

If you're a food lover, stay tuned for more Penang food posts that's coming right up!

YNOT — Spark Your Creativity with Graffiti

When people ask you why graffiti? You answered them Y, NOT?

Good news to all graffiti art enthusiasts — time to spark your creativity with graffiti and stand a chance to win RM40,000 cash and prizes! I attended the launch of the ‘YNOT — Spark Your Creativity with Graffiti’ art competition at IACT College last month.
Talk show with the VIPs — (from left to right) IACT College academic director Nicholas Lee, Vice President of Marketing, Genting Malaysia Berhard, Mr. Chow Wei Heng, art writer and competition judge Ooi Kok Chuen, and Artseni Gallery founder and the competition’s art consultant / judge Philip Wong.

The talk show was indeed interesting, giving me an a whole new insight of what graffiti is all about. It's not just merely an art, it's a way how people express themselves and voice out themselves in a form of art which I find pretty interesting. I've always enjoy looking at the graffiti art at a stretch of the River Klang by Pasar Seni LRT station.

Mr Chow Wei Heng said, “Graffiti art is getting popular in the country, and there are indeed many talented Graffiti artists out there. We hope by organizing such competition we are able to create a platform to further enhance the appreciation of graffiti and its artists to the general public.”

A brief explanation on the mechanism of the contest and how the FB app works.
