How's everyone doing over the long weekend? :D
Back to the second part of my Day 2 in Muar, where I'll introduce this famous coffee place. Attention coffee lovers, you won't wanna miss out!
Besides otak-otak and the assam fish, Muar is also famous for this particular coffee bean named Malaysia Elephant Bean AA, a rare Liberica spesies, is an exotic coffee with a very outstanding flavour and unique taste. Too bad I'm not a coffee person so I won't be able to enjoy this coffee goodness, but my friends are.
So Jie Yi brought us to Kopi Sai Kee 434 Kopitiam for our tea break. The kopitiam is easily spotted when you pass by with its bright yellow exterior and a huge elephant drawing on it.
Just a brief background about Sai Kee Coffee, it was founded in 1953 in a doubled- story wooden house just behind the Muar river in Jalan Ismail, Muar. Its founder, Mr. Kiar Am Sai has made his coffee a popular drink among the locals, with his signatured product “Kopi Cap 434” remains a favorite brew among coffee lovers, both local and abroad. |
They have two sections; air conditioned and al fresco. |
Greeted by this monkey sculpture when I entered the coffeeshop. Not forgetting the fragrant and strong coffee smell that filled the whole atmosphere when I entered as well, this is what I call a coffeeshop! |
An array of different types of coffee powder on display. More details HERE. |
I love restaurants and cafe with unique and impressive interior design and that's normally the first thing I'll notice whenever I enter any restaurants and cafe. No doubt, Sai Kee Coffee fulfill the criteria and I love how they put so much effort in decorating the place with everything related to coffee theme.
Note that all the decorative items are for display purposes and not for SALE. |
I wonder where they got the antique coffee makers, coffee grinder, teapots and cute teacups with saucers. |
Everything is nicely arranged on fake coffee beans. Coffeelicious enough? |
Don't worry that you won't be able to get the coffee you want, as you can see they have quite a number of in-stock products. And not to forget, their products are certified by Department of Islamic Development
Malaysia as Halal Food. There's even a halal cert in their shop as you can see from the photo below. |
The ultimate coffee grinder, and you can smell the strong aroma of coffee as it grinds *sniffffffs* |
Three different coffee beans to choose from (: |
Besides coffee, you'll see a number of elephants drawings and sculpture in the shop too. |
So why 434? I was asking myself the same question too.
Ah Sai, a self made entrepreneur has always wanted to do business with the local multi-racial community. Bearing this in mind, he wanted the Malay, Chinese, Indian and Sikhs customers to recognise and remember his brand of coffee, and he has chosen his three digit telephone during the 1960s “434” as his brand name. Since then, the number 434 has been a lucky number for Ah Sai. It brings in a lot of good business and good luck to the Kiar family. Today, when coffee lovers mention about the magic number 434,
it is Sai Kee Coffee from Muar. — Source Interesting isn't it? (;

The simple menu with no illustrations or whatsoever. Little did I know that they do serve world class coffee as well like the famous Luak Kopi Musang and Blue Mountain coffee at RM20 per cup. |
In Sai Kee Kopi 434, they use brown sugar instead of white. |
Tiramisu cake @ RM6.00
Not the best Tiramisu I've ever tasted but the texture is quite soft. |
Normal Kaya and Butter Toast @ RM2.30 |
Look at the thick unmelted butter YUMSSSSS |
Cafe Latte @ RM5.00 |
Ice cream coffee @ RM6.00
You can actually choose the ice cream flavour that you want; chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. |

100% Elephant Bean Coffee @ RM6.00
Jieyi said it was real good, the aroma and taste of the coffee is equally strong. Coffee lovers would love this. |
Packed with young or elderly patrons especially during teatime for yumcha sesh. |
They have different types of tea as well. |
Comfortable and clean ambiance, the vibe of an old wooden house still remains. |
Shelves filled with more coffee related decorative items. |
Teacup for sale! |
So if you happen to be in Muar, don't forget to drop by and enjoy a cup of aromatic coffee at Cafe 434 (:
