June has been great to me so far, filled with celebrations and stuff. Earlier last week, I managed to go on a short trip up north for food while accompanying Joeann to run some errands. This time round, we stayed in Chulia Heritage Hotel that I came across while searching for hotels on Agoda. The white classy interior just blew me away when I first saw it and since the price was decent so I thought why not give it a try.
Chulia Heritage Hotel is a unique boutique hotel where 200 years of exquisite heritage meets today's contemporary hospitality. I guess it was used to be a budget guest house by the photos that were hung in the hotel but they have recently refurbished to a budget hotel where you will rediscover the colonel beauty of old Penang yet be pampered with modern day comfort at affordable prices. Location wise is pretty strategic cause it's nearby to few of the historical places, cafes and the famous makan place (read: eatery) that I intend to visit especially Lebuh Carnavon, Stewart Lane and Lebuh Kimberley. Not to forget, you can experience culinary adventures and cultural delights on Chulia Street itself!
Located just a stone throw from Yeng Keng Cafe & Hotel, finding Chulia Heritage Hotel was pretty effortless although it's not visible from the main road of Chulia street. You will need to enter a small alley to reach this hotel.

And we're here!
The facade. |
The lobby; looking lavish isn't it? |
I have always have this thing with white walls and white furniture so of course I was seriously in love with the whole sleek and classic English interior design. |
The front desk. |

The stair that heads to the first floor where our room is at and for your information, shoes are not allowed on the first floor. So we will have to remove our shoes and place in on the racks provided near the stairs. The room rate varies according to the location of the room; either on ground floor or on the first floor. The difference is that the rooms on the ground floor are probably bigger and has its own bathroom in the room where the bathrooms on the first floor is for sharing. |
We took the basic triple room that comes with one queen size bed and a single bed which costs around RM120 per night which costs us around RM40 per person. Not too bad, right? It comes with very basic facilities like air conditioner, a small cupboard, towels, cups, bedroom slippers and not to forget, WIFI. As you can see, the room is quite clean and comfy too. |
A decent size LCD TV on the wall. |
Mr. Broccoli getting all comfy already (: |
This is how the hall on the first floor looks at night. |
The common bathroom with toilets, they are altogether 8 bathrooms to accommodate all the guest on the first floors. It gets extra packed in the morning, so you either have to wake up early or slightly later. |
Clean and well-maintained bathroom. |
