Brown Pocket @ Gurney Paragon

Hey guys!

I know I haven't been blogging about food in a while so I'm back with a food post this time! Before the trip to Penang, I've made a mental note to visit few of the new cafes and Brown Pocket was one of them. The amount of people posting up their irresistible waffles on Instagram makes it so hard to not try them out HEH Brown Pocket, a newly opened cafe in Gurney Paragon is famous for their liege waffles and pancakes. Since we arrived in Penang slightly later in the afternoon, we were just in time for some coffee and light dessert for tea break.

Eating utensils in mason jar.

Affogato -- RM8.90
This was Sie Yii's order and the only comment she had was the espresso was a tad too bitter for her.

The Light Body -- RM14.90
Pocket's signature waffle served with ice-cream and homemade tiramisu.

We expected to have at least a small piece of tiramisu cake served with this waffle based on the description but it turns out to be the tiramisu-flavoured cream (which doesn't really have a strong tiramisu taste) at the side of the waffle. The waffle was topped with a vanilla ice cream and it was delish even without the tiramisu cream.

Beanie Matcha -- RM12.90
Served with azuki beans, fresh strawberries, ice-cream and matcha.
This one the other hand was great if you're a  big fan green tea. I'm quite particular with green tea icec-ream and this one did not disappoint at all. It has a strong and distinct green tea flavour (like mmm yes) and it goes well with the waffles and strawberries! Major love :D

If you're a chocolate lover, just go for the Triple Chocolate Waffles, heard it's pretty good and it's one of their bestsellers too!

Iced Cappucino @ RM10.90
Iced Salted Caramel Latte @ RM12.90
To be honest, it tasted more like a Caramel Macchiato rather than a Salted Caramel Latte. I should have ordered the high raved Matcha Latte instead T__T

Extra plus point for having wooden tables around cause it makes food photography way nicer! Don't you think? And of course sitting beside the huge window gives natural sunlight to enhance your photo as well.

The waffles were really good, no kidding. I've tasted worse waffles. I love the soft inside-texture yet it's crunchy on the outside. Looking back at this photo makes me salivates! You can taste its freshness and most importantly it was still warm when served. If only the portion is bigger, I can't have enough of them T__T

Since we were not really into pancakes, we give their pancakes a miss this time. And besides, they have a range of healthy dessert and beverages for the health-enthusiasts as well, how thoughtful. Now everyone can enjoy dessert!

A group selfie with the waffles before we dig in!

Teeehee the lightning is too nice to not take a selfie :P #excuses

Tree with light bulbs! So pretty ❤

The counter.

It was overall a delightful tea session at Brown Pocket, loving the spacious and cosy ambience. They even have outdoor seating with a beautiful view overlooking the beach along Gurney Drive from the 6th floor of Gurney Paragon. The place was filled with patrons of all ages even on a weekday afternoon, probably cause it was on school holiday. Definitely a good place to chill and chit-chat with friends or family over dessert and coffee. Service-wise is satisfactory and I would totally come back again for their waffles.

7 Types of Faces while Watching World Cup

The World Cup fever is here again with the Fifa World Cup 2014 starting tomorrow! Are you guys excited?! Cause I certainly am \(^▽^\)(/^▽^)/

I was hanging out with Joeann earlier today and we were so bored that we ended up facepainting (well, she was the one who painted it anyway) flags of the team we are supporting this year. Since we took shitloads bunch of selfies, I thought of coming up with this post just for the fun of it. I guess it would be better if we do a short video but it's gonna be tedious with the whole editing process and all so yeah.

So these are the 7 types of faces while watching World Cup;
#1. YES-it's-a-GOALLLLLLLLLL face.
#2. Dey-Referee-Y-U-simply-give-red-card face.

#3. Walao-liddat-also-can-goal face.

#4. Lansi-cause-my-team-just-scored-a-goal face.

#5. Is-it-gonna-be-a-goal face.
#6. The-opponent-is-leading-with-5-goals face.
#7. Wait-what-that's-a-penalty face.

Team Holland vs Team Espanol
And of course there's more selfies (as much as I wanted to post them all here) but I shall not bore you with our faces. So that's pretty much it :P

Last but not least, let the World Cup begins and watch responsibly! May the best team wins!

Chulia Heritage Hotel

Hey guys! How's June treating you guys so far?

June has been great to me so far, filled with celebrations and stuff. Earlier last week, I managed to go on a short trip up north for food while accompanying Joeann to run some errands. This time round, we stayed in Chulia Heritage Hotel that I came across while searching for hotels on Agoda. The white classy interior just blew me away when I first saw it and since the price was decent so I thought why not give it a try.

Chulia Heritage Hotel is a unique boutique hotel where 200 years of exquisite heritage meets today's contemporary hospitality. I guess it was used to be a budget guest house by the photos that were hung in the hotel but they have recently refurbished to a budget hotel where you will rediscover the colonel beauty of old Penang yet be pampered with modern day comfort at affordable prices. Location wise is pretty strategic cause it's nearby to few of the historical places, cafes and the famous makan place (read: eatery) that I intend to visit especially Lebuh Carnavon, Stewart Lane and Lebuh Kimberley. Not to forget, you can experience culinary adventures and cultural delights on Chulia Street itself!

Located just a stone throw from Yeng Keng Cafe & Hotel, finding Chulia Heritage Hotel was pretty effortless although it's not visible from the main road of Chulia street. You will need to enter a small alley to reach this hotel.

And we're here!
The facade.

The lobby; looking lavish isn't it?

I have always have this thing with white walls and white furniture so of course I was seriously in love with the whole sleek and classic English interior design.

The front desk.
Let's take a look at the exterior compound of the hotel.
They have this huge and nice wall outside where you can take your OOTD shot HEH
The alley that I mentioned earlier.
In the morning, you will see tiny pretty pink flowers blooming beside the pavement. What a lovely sight!
Close up of the pink flower ✿✿✿

Guests are entitled free bicycle usage for 3 hours per stay on first come first serve basis.

The stair that heads to the first floor where our room is at and for your information, shoes are not allowed on the first floor. So we will have to remove our shoes and place in on the racks provided near the stairs.

The room rate varies according to the location of the room; either on ground floor or on the first floor. The difference is that the rooms on the ground floor are probably bigger and has its own bathroom in the room where the bathrooms on the first floor is for sharing.

We took the basic triple room that comes with one queen size bed and a single bed which costs around RM120 per night which costs us around RM40 per person. Not too bad, right? It comes with very basic facilities like air conditioner, a small cupboard, towels, cups, bedroom slippers and not to forget, WIFI. As you can see, the room is quite clean and comfy too.

A decent size LCD TV on the wall.

Mr. Broccoli getting all comfy already (:

This is how the hall on the first floor looks at night.

The common bathroom with toilets, they are altogether 8 bathrooms to accommodate all the guest on the first floors. It gets extra packed in the morning, so you either have to wake up early or slightly later.

Clean and well-maintained bathroom.
It was quite a pleasant stay and I was satisfied with their service. I would definitely recommend this place if you're finding a cheaper alternative to stay (besides backpacker hostels) for a night or two (: The only downside would be the limited parking space.

Book A Taxi with Taxi Monger today!

If you know me well, you probably know that I go around with public transport most of the times but taxi would be a better option sometimes since it's more convenience and time-saving which I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for that. However, it can quite nerve-wrecking if you can't hail a taxi on the spot especially when you're running late but thank goodness for this life saver taxi booking mobile app called Taxi Monger! I can now book my taxi beforehand :D Forget the traditional way of calling taxi hotlines to get a taxi. Besides, what sets Taxi Monger apart from the other taxi apps is that they provide the passengers more value for their moolah spent on taxi rides with their loyalty programme! Well, you have to read till the end to find out more.

Alright, let's get started! First, you'll have to download the app from your respective app store and sign up for an account.
You can opt to log in via Taxi Monger itself or via FB which makes everything easier since all your details will be synced automatically.
Once you've activated your account, this will appear on the homepage of the app that shows your current location. Even without the GPS switched on, the location is pretty accurate.

To book a taxi, you can choose to be picked up from your current location or click search if it's from a different location. Then, key in all the necessary booking details to complete the booking.
You can also select your own pickup time (you can even book few days ahead) and the type of taxis that you want (luxury or budget). Then, the fare estimation will be shown along with the duration of the journey.
Once your booking is made, notifications will be sent via email and SMS to confirm your booking. You can also check your booking at your app's dashboard. The details of the taxi driver that includes the contact number and car plate number will be made available too.

For a better idea, here's a brief video to show you how Taxi Monger works!

Verdict
I personally tried Taxi Monger myself and I find it pretty good. The driver was punctual (slightly earlier in fact) and gave me a call when he arrived. The trip took less than half an hour and costs me around RM35 from Klang to PJ, thanks to clear traffic.

To be frank, there are quite a few limitations since it's still a pretty new app. I felt there is definitely room for improvement to provide a better and satisfactory service to their users. They are currently serving in Klang Valley area so it was a tad difficult to get taxis that are not in the area.

Well, that's just not it! With Taxi Monger, you'll get to enjoy some other benefits as well!

1. TaxiMiles is the first loyalty programme ever to be created by a taxi-booking app in Malaysia that is specially designed for their loyal customers. The more you ride with them, the more TaxiMiles you earn and the more choices you have to redeem for gifts and vouchers. How to earn them? Every 1km of travel using Taxi Monger equals to 1 TaxiMile.

As you can see, I've collected 31 Taxi Miles after my first trip.
For every 1000 TaxiMiles, you'll be entitled to claim for a KFC Snack Plate Voucher while for 2,000 TaxiMiles, you can claim a Starbucks Card worth RM20. You can even claim an Ipad Mini with 10,000 TaxiMiles. Feel free to visit http://store.taximonger.com/ to check out the whole gallery of interesting gifts and vouchers that you can choose from! So start booking with Taxi Monger and to collect more TaxiMiles today!

2. Flexiroam is a service that allows you to make and receive international roaming calls when overseas for free at a flat rate per day. For customers who have recently subscribed to TaxiMonger, you will  be rewarded with RM50 Flexiroam credits. On average, RM50 Flexiroam credits can be used over a period of 5 days overseas and you can save at least RM500 in total! Such a steal, no? For more information, please go to http://taximonger.com/freerm50 or http://www.flexiroam.com/.

Taxi Monger is now available for download on Apple Store, Google Play, Hypp TV and online so you can now book a taxi to your doorstep with just a click away!
