Chulia Heritage Hotel

Hey guys! How's June treating you guys so far?

June has been great to me so far, filled with celebrations and stuff. Earlier last week, I managed to go on a short trip up north for food while accompanying Joeann to run some errands. This time round, we stayed in Chulia Heritage Hotel that I came across while searching for hotels on Agoda. The white classy interior just blew me away when I first saw it and since the price was decent so I thought why not give it a try.

Chulia Heritage Hotel is a unique boutique hotel where 200 years of exquisite heritage meets today's contemporary hospitality. I guess it was used to be a budget guest house by the photos that were hung in the hotel but they have recently refurbished to a budget hotel where you will rediscover the colonel beauty of old Penang yet be pampered with modern day comfort at affordable prices. Location wise is pretty strategic cause it's nearby to few of the historical places, cafes and the famous makan place (read: eatery) that I intend to visit especially Lebuh Carnavon, Stewart Lane and Lebuh Kimberley. Not to forget, you can experience culinary adventures and cultural delights on Chulia Street itself!

Located just a stone throw from Yeng Keng Cafe & Hotel, finding Chulia Heritage Hotel was pretty effortless although it's not visible from the main road of Chulia street. You will need to enter a small alley to reach this hotel.

And we're here!
The facade.

The lobby; looking lavish isn't it?

I have always have this thing with white walls and white furniture so of course I was seriously in love with the whole sleek and classic English interior design.

The front desk.
Let's take a look at the exterior compound of the hotel.
They have this huge and nice wall outside where you can take your OOTD shot HEH
The alley that I mentioned earlier.
In the morning, you will see tiny pretty pink flowers blooming beside the pavement. What a lovely sight!
Close up of the pink flower ✿✿✿

Guests are entitled free bicycle usage for 3 hours per stay on first come first serve basis.

The stair that heads to the first floor where our room is at and for your information, shoes are not allowed on the first floor. So we will have to remove our shoes and place in on the racks provided near the stairs.

The room rate varies according to the location of the room; either on ground floor or on the first floor. The difference is that the rooms on the ground floor are probably bigger and has its own bathroom in the room where the bathrooms on the first floor is for sharing.

We took the basic triple room that comes with one queen size bed and a single bed which costs around RM120 per night which costs us around RM40 per person. Not too bad, right? It comes with very basic facilities like air conditioner, a small cupboard, towels, cups, bedroom slippers and not to forget, WIFI. As you can see, the room is quite clean and comfy too.

A decent size LCD TV on the wall.

Mr. Broccoli getting all comfy already (:

This is how the hall on the first floor looks at night.

The common bathroom with toilets, they are altogether 8 bathrooms to accommodate all the guest on the first floors. It gets extra packed in the morning, so you either have to wake up early or slightly later.

Clean and well-maintained bathroom.
It was quite a pleasant stay and I was satisfied with their service. I would definitely recommend this place if you're finding a cheaper alternative to stay (besides backpacker hostels) for a night or two (: The only downside would be the limited parking space.

Book A Taxi with Taxi Monger today!

If you know me well, you probably know that I go around with public transport most of the times but taxi would be a better option sometimes since it's more convenience and time-saving which I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for that. However, it can quite nerve-wrecking if you can't hail a taxi on the spot especially when you're running late but thank goodness for this life saver taxi booking mobile app called Taxi Monger! I can now book my taxi beforehand :D Forget the traditional way of calling taxi hotlines to get a taxi. Besides, what sets Taxi Monger apart from the other taxi apps is that they provide the passengers more value for their moolah spent on taxi rides with their loyalty programme! Well, you have to read till the end to find out more.

Alright, let's get started! First, you'll have to download the app from your respective app store and sign up for an account.
You can opt to log in via Taxi Monger itself or via FB which makes everything easier since all your details will be synced automatically.
Once you've activated your account, this will appear on the homepage of the app that shows your current location. Even without the GPS switched on, the location is pretty accurate.

To book a taxi, you can choose to be picked up from your current location or click search if it's from a different location. Then, key in all the necessary booking details to complete the booking.
You can also select your own pickup time (you can even book few days ahead) and the type of taxis that you want (luxury or budget). Then, the fare estimation will be shown along with the duration of the journey.
Once your booking is made, notifications will be sent via email and SMS to confirm your booking. You can also check your booking at your app's dashboard. The details of the taxi driver that includes the contact number and car plate number will be made available too.

For a better idea, here's a brief video to show you how Taxi Monger works!

Verdict
I personally tried Taxi Monger myself and I find it pretty good. The driver was punctual (slightly earlier in fact) and gave me a call when he arrived. The trip took less than half an hour and costs me around RM35 from Klang to PJ, thanks to clear traffic.

To be frank, there are quite a few limitations since it's still a pretty new app. I felt there is definitely room for improvement to provide a better and satisfactory service to their users. They are currently serving in Klang Valley area so it was a tad difficult to get taxis that are not in the area.

Well, that's just not it! With Taxi Monger, you'll get to enjoy some other benefits as well!

1. TaxiMiles is the first loyalty programme ever to be created by a taxi-booking app in Malaysia that is specially designed for their loyal customers. The more you ride with them, the more TaxiMiles you earn and the more choices you have to redeem for gifts and vouchers. How to earn them? Every 1km of travel using Taxi Monger equals to 1 TaxiMile.

As you can see, I've collected 31 Taxi Miles after my first trip.
For every 1000 TaxiMiles, you'll be entitled to claim for a KFC Snack Plate Voucher while for 2,000 TaxiMiles, you can claim a Starbucks Card worth RM20. You can even claim an Ipad Mini with 10,000 TaxiMiles. Feel free to visit http://store.taximonger.com/ to check out the whole gallery of interesting gifts and vouchers that you can choose from! So start booking with Taxi Monger and to collect more TaxiMiles today!

2. Flexiroam is a service that allows you to make and receive international roaming calls when overseas for free at a flat rate per day. For customers who have recently subscribed to TaxiMonger, you will  be rewarded with RM50 Flexiroam credits. On average, RM50 Flexiroam credits can be used over a period of 5 days overseas and you can save at least RM500 in total! Such a steal, no? For more information, please go to http://taximonger.com/freerm50 or http://www.flexiroam.com/.

Taxi Monger is now available for download on Apple Store, Google Play, Hypp TV and online so you can now book a taxi to your doorstep with just a click away!

Filthy Fortune KL with EDZ @ Prodigy KL

Just so you know, I'm finally done with uni! :D Good thing about my finals this time is that I get to have a few days off before the my final presentation so I decided to take a night off from studying to take a breather. All thanks to Manoah, I had the chance to party with fellow bloggers last Friday night at this new place, Prodigy KL that used to be Butter Factory.

PRODIGY KL presents you FILTH FORTUNE every Friday!
Last Friday, it was DJ EDZ who showcased filthy beats, bass lines, and a fist pumping experience, featuring both EDM and commercial hits that was enough to make the whole crowd wild all night long!
The exterior of the club.

My party partner of the night that needs no introduction -- Joeann and I (:

It was still early while we were there, so I had the chance to take some photos of the interior before the crowd builds in. All photos are taken by NX mini, I love how convenient it is to bring it anywhere!
The main stage.

I love how they have this classy corner with swing at the entrance, perfect place to take your ootn.

HEH Of course I didn't miss the chance to take my #OOTN

How awesome that we were seated just beside the main stage.

The party won't start till I walk in... #justkidding. By midnight, the crowd are pretty much pumped up on the dance floor with the awesome set played by DJ EDZ. A mixture of trance and house music, and of course some mainstream club hits, I still enjoy myself though I felt  the set could have been better \m/

I like how the place isn't too packed despite the crowd so it's really comfortable to dance around without worrying being squashed like sardines.

You spin my head right round, right round, when you go down, when you go down down.

More selfie break :3

Don, Lisa and I :DDD

Wink and Shoot!

I'm pretty sure everyone must have jump on the selfie bandwagon (at least once, don't you dare to lie) before or some might be still under the selfie fever ever since it existed. It's a word we hear so often these days that it was announced being the word of the year and made into the online version of the Oxford English Dictionary last year. No, I'm not gonna talk about the history of selfie and its evolution but I'm gonna talk about the ultimate selfie machine. Yes, it's the Samsung NX Mini that brings selfie to a whole new level! Like I mentioned before in my previous post, The NX Mini has three ways to activate a selfie: normal mode, smile shot and the wink shot.

On normal mode, you will need to press the shutter to capture a selfie or you can have a 3 seconds countdown timer set, so you can quickly prime yourself for a selfie shot. The smile shot captures instantly when it detects a big, cheesy smile! Even if there's only one person smiling among a bunch of people frowning in the background. That is definitely my friends' favourite mode but it can be tricky sometimes cause everyone have to smile at the same time or else it could have fire off early when it detects one of them smiling while others are still preparing themselves. You have no idea how many funny photos I get from this shot.

Last but not least, the wink mode that I love the most! Once it detects a wink, it will start on a 3 seconds countdown timer as well and capture your wink shot. It's not as sensitive as the smile shot, but it still work most of the time for me. The downside is that it wouldn't detect your wink if you're wearing glasses.

Alright, time to put the wink shot into test!

Flip over the screen and it will automatically be on the self mode.
Click on the face detection and choose the wink mode.
Give in your cutest wink pose and wait for it to capture automatically after two seconds.
No button required, just a wink will do (;
Smile is optional but I'm sure you don't wanna look like you had a face paralysis HEH

Maintaining a flattering pose while attempting to press the shutter button when one is selfie-ing can be challenging unless you're the selfie queen, but the NX mini's wink mode sure makes it easy peasy! Who knows they may come out with more interesting modes in the future, like a duck face mode HAHAHA

Before I head back to studying and preparing for finals, let me take a selfie ƪ(˘⌣˘)ʃ
Now this is the toothache pose -- it makes your face looks slimmer without the use of photoshop and yes, I was trying to act cute :P

Till then, have an awesome weekend ahead!

Head-to-Toe Pampering Session at Pink Passion Salon

Nowadays, we tend to let hectic lifestyles take over us that leads to overloaded stress both physically and mentally. It is important  for us to take some time once in a while to recharge and unwind. Nothing is more indulgent, relaxing, and restoring than a head-to-toe pampering session. I bet you guys have heard plenty about Pink Passion's Eyelash Extension service but they do other services ranging from facial to body as well. Thanks to Pink Passion for inviting me over to their saloon again to try out two of new treatments which is the Intensive Face Lymphatic Treatment and the Chinese Deep Tissue Massage respectively. The invitation came just on the right time since I have been wanting to get a full body massage.

So I made an appointment with them earlier last month on one of the weekdays. I was quite early that day so the beautician brought me right away to change in the treatment room. The first thing I noticed in the room was the fairy lights!

Dim-lighted room and soothing music is definitely the perfect combo for a relaxing facial session.
So, the beautician started off with the normal facial routine that includes cleansing, toning, moisturizing, mask, extractions as well as shoulder and head massage. The massage was really good! She added ampoule for me too for better moisturizing function and enhance skin absorption.
Intensive Face Lympathic Treatment is a fusion of an Eastern traditional practice and Western lymphatic detoxification to promote blood circulation and help with lymphatic drainage to remove toxins from the entire face as it targets on facial acupunture and meridian points. This treatment has been adapted by Pink Passion and given a modern twist with Ginseng and Eucalyptus to fight stress-caused conditions and to stimulate and bring a new radiance to the skin and leaves the face with revitalized and glowing skin. It also helps to reduce wrinkles and improve elasticity of skin. This treatment is suitable for those who afflicted with dull, dry skin and/or eye bags and dark eye circles due to poor blood circulation. In other word, it is also called Facial Guasa Treatment that uses the horns of water buffaloes.

The first thought that came to my mind was will it cause any bruising to my face like how Guasa usually does to the body. My beautician reassured me that it will not cause any redness AT ALL and it will be a PAIN-FREE treatment. She first applied some lavender essential oil on my face and did some focal pressing and light scraping.

It was indeed painless, in fact the whole treatment was very comfortable and calming.
The aftermath; no redness or bruising after the guasa treatment.

Lastly, I had another 15 mins of double mask treatment at the end of the treatment. The whole facial session took around 2 hours and I would totally recommend this!

After my facial session, I was brought to the massage room for my second treatment.
The massage room.
They even provided shower cap and disposable underwear.

Another section of the room that has a jacuzzi tub and a shower place.

Prior to the massage, I was asked to undress and take a soak in a tub filled with warm water and essential oil for a maximum of 20 minutes called Kneipp Hydrotherapy Jacuzzi treatment. It is basically a bath spa with soothing jets pressure that promotes relaxation to your muscles and improves blood circulation. With the jacuzzi treatment, you’ll enjoy a better massage as it allows your massage therapist to work deeper without feeling pain. You can even take a power nap cause it's that relaxing. You will find yourself sweating during the jacuzzi treatment, but it's normal and you're advised to not stay in for more than 20 minutes.

I took a quick shower after the jacuzzi bath and called out for the massage therapist. You will be required to be totally undressed (hence no photos of me during the massage session :P) but no worries, cause you will be properly draped. The massage therapist was really professional and experienced. The only area exposed will be the area being worked on by the therapist. Overall, the deep tissue massage session was an invigorating experience. She started off from my back with a good amount of pressure and then to my peripheral limbs. She targeted mostly on the deep tissues as well as trigger points. By the time the massage ended an hour later, I felt myself loose and relaxed. I was advised to drink a lot of water to hydrate myself. It did feel a bit sore the next day but most importantly, I had a really good sleep that night since I've been having insomnia for quite some time.

Here are some useful tips for those who are going for a massage:
  • Eat light at least an hour before your session. Having a small amount of food in your stomach will prevent you from feeling hungry without causing you to feel bloated.
  • Communicate with your massage therapist. Make sure that she is aware of your comfort level with the intensity of the pressure, so give your feedback to help the therapist understand your needs.
  • Just relax and enjoy the massage (:
  • Hydrate yourself with plenty of water after therapy! Herbal teas are good too.
Interested in trying either one of the treatments or both? Good news to my lovely readers! Pink Passion is offering you these two treatments at special rate; which is more than 50% discount off the actual price.

Intensive Face Lympathic Treatment for RM88 instead of RM228 (It's on double promotion, such a steal!) Chinese Deep Tissue Massage & Kneipp Hydrotherapy Jacuzzi Treatment for RM58 instead of RM138.

Just print out these voucher or print screen them for the promo. Don't miss it!

I would totally recommend you to take both of the treatments cause it's worth it and I'll assure you a satisfying head to toe pampering session :D And just so you know, Mother's Day is just around the corner. So probably you can treat your mother to a day of pampering session as well. I'm sure she'll love it!
